Sri Lanka (formerly Ceylon) is blessed with an incomparable biological diversity to another country in the world when compared with its very small area. A significant percentage of animals that reside here are endemic. i.e. They are restricted to Sri Lanka and thus cannot be found in anywhere else in the world.
Unfortunately, as a result of human activities, most of the endemic species have become endangered.Some of the conspicuous reasons which threatens these species existence are, habit destruction by unsustainable logging, pollution of environment, illegal hunting and etc..,
 
 





Painted Bat is found throughout the low country as well as the lower hills. They fly low and hunt in bushes and low trees. They are THREATENED and PROTECTED in SriLanka
 


The Asian elephant is one of the most seriously endangered large mammals in the world. The elephant population in Sri Lanka has declined by 85% since the turn of the 19th century. Today, between 2500 & 3250 elephants are estimated to occur in the wild
